A company with nearly 300 Itanium cores running the applications successfully moves to a new platform.

There are many reasons why a company might decide to migrate database and application support from one platform to another. Generally, it is important not to disrupt on-going operations to accomplish the migration. Often, it is also critical to have a test bed with realistic data to determine if new or changed routines are working correctly.

A company with data volumes and applications so extensive that they were running almost 300 itanium cores installed the Loader to enable their migration from Rdb on OpenVMS to another database on another platform. They were able to set up the target system and gradually move applications. The Loader kept the target system updated with changes made to the Rdb database. The new modules were tested against realistic data. There was never the dreadful moment when someone said "Time to throw the switch." and everyone wondered if it would work. Instead, operations continued and the change was largely transparent.

This architecture enabled a smooth transition and a successful migration.
